If you'd like to get some height and admire the panorama, 9 minutes by car or 20 minutes by bus, head for the departure point of the Tignousa funicular in Saint-Luc. Once on board, you'll climb 500 metres in 4 minutes to land at 2180 metres and enjoy spectacular views of the Alps and Val d'Anniviers.

With a wealth of adventures to her name, from Iran to India to Asia, at the age of 45 a woman by the name of Ella Maillart has, perhaps against all odds, made her home here in the village of Chandolin. Her chalet ‘Atchala’, located at Déjo Vella 3961 Chandolin, became her home from May to October, like a freeze-frame she sought to create from time to time between two escapades abroad. After years of upheaval, she needed to find a place, a chalet, a house.

 Want to reach the top? Take the Tsapé chairlift to the top of the resort, which can be explored in summer and winter alike, on skis or hiking boots. The slopes and walks are a delight for sports enthusiasts and visitors alike, whether novice or experienced.

The mountain peaks you see in Chandolin were once at the same level as the surrounding land. It took almost 100 million years for the gradual folding caused by the movement of tectonic plates to allow these parcels of land to brush up against the clouds. The proximity of the village of Chandolin to the summit of the Weisshorn, a mountain that rises to 4,500 metres and rivals Switzerland's highest peak (Mont Rose, 4,634 m), is an enchantment for the most experienced explorers.

The Museum of wildlife in Chandolin has set itself the task of giving you an overview of the region's mammals and birds through an educational exhibition. Take a diversion there before setting off on your hikes, and you'll come away with a keen eye for observing and naming certain species likely to cross your path!

In Chandolin, you are close to the highest suspension bridge in Europe... the Niouc Suspension Bridge! This scarlet bridge, also known as the ‘Spider Bridge’, links two ends of the Niouc gorges at a height of some 190 metres, and can be crossed on foot over a vertiginous 200-metre span. Halfway across, the more adventurous can try their hand at bungee jumping (booking required).
